Age is Just A Number

AGE is definitely a  big deal when it comes to classic cars!

Every Friday night  all the old timers come out and park; the classic cars of yesteryear that are so beautifully restored by their owners and kept in mint condition for all to see.  It is amazing the amount of people that come to see this free event every Friday night.  I don't know how this event got started or how they decided to meet in the middle of town in this very parking lot, but I am glad they do.

Times are changing so fast that we can hardly remember what was in last year let alone fifty years ago.  Buy a cell phone now and it will be obsolete in a year.  We can Google items we once loved and have them pop up on a Wikipedia note.  That seems to be the only way we can glimpse parts of at time we once knew.

The owners to these beautiful driving machines know what to do to keep these icons alive and well-polished for us to remember.  Here are just a few of the wonderful cars I was able to see and peek inside a world that seems far forgotten.  Enjoy!

Wild Rice & Pepper Salad

I simply love this salad!

Super easy to make and as Lucy Ricardo would say,
"It's so tasty too! Taste just like candy."

Okay, well it doesn't taste like candy, but it's worth making.

Here's what you'll need:

1 6 ounce Pkg Long Grain & Wild Rice
(I use Uncle Bens)
1/2 Cup Miracle Whip Salad Dressing
2 Tablespoon Olive Oil
1/2 teaspoon Black Pepper
1/4 Teaspoon Grated Lemon Peel
Juice of half the lemon
1/2 - 1 Cup Red Bell Pepper, chopped
1/2 - 1 Cup Yellow Bell Pepper, chopped
1/4 Cup Green Onion Pieces, cut into 1/4 pieces

Prepare the long grain rice as directed on the package, omitting the butter; cool the rice.

In a medium bowl combine the salad dressing, olive oil, black pepper, lemon peel and the lemon juice.

Add the cooled rice to the dressing and toss to coat.
Add the remaining ingredients; mix lightly.

You can serve this at room temperate, but I like to serve it chilled after it has had a chance to marinate in the dressing.

Changing this salad up with pineapple, oranges and nuts would be a great variation of this recipe.

Reversible Headband

Got 15 minutes?

You can make this reversible headband in 15 minutes.

Here's how to do it:

Measure from the top of your head, behind both of your ears and again to the top, where you started and then add three more inches to that measurement.

Here's what you'll need:

1. Cut two coordinating strips of fabric that measure 4" wide and the length of your head measurement.

2. One hair rubber band. ( I used a Goody thick rubber band)

Right sides facing down, fold over one side measuring 1 1/4" and iron the strip flat and fold over the remaining side 1 1/4" and iron flat.  You should have two finished strips that measure 1 1/2" wide.  Don't worry about the raw edges, they will be sewn inside each other.

Place the two ends together with the right sides facing down and attach the two end edges together with a pin and sew a 3/4" seam.

Add the rubber band to the middle of the sewn seam and fold the strips together laying the wrong side on top of each other and sew a straight line across to seal the rubber band in place.

Pull the rubber band through the other side.  The rubber band is now in the middle between the wrong sides of the fabric.  Repeat the same process with the rubber band pulling the two sides in to create the same end like the previous one with a 3/4" seam.

The raw sides are now laying on top of each other with the rights side facing out on both sides.  This is the finished look before you sew it together.

Pin the strips together to secure them together for sewing.  Using a 1/4" seam allowance to sew the entire headband together.

You'll have a finished reversible headband you can wear with two options.

Super cute and super easy to make with scraps and a rubber band!

My New Best Friend

Meet my NEW BFF!

Cover Girls Outlast All-Day Lipcolor

I hate to reapply my lipstick after having dinner out.  It means either applying your lipstick at the table, which is considered bad manners or going to the bathroom and fighting for a mirror while others are waiting for you to finish.

Outlast does what it says and you put it on and you can eat through dinner without the lipstick leaving your lipstick marks on your drinking glass, the napkin or smeared on your face.

It doesn't technically last "ALL" day from one application, but it has great staying power.

It's nice to see a product make a claim and deliver on it.

Disclosure: I purchased the above product and no monetary compensation was received by me. This is my honest opinion above and may differ from yours.

Marinated Cucmber Salad

With summer just too hot to turn the oven on summer salads are perfect for dinner.

Too much of the same thing is boring and I am always looking for something new.

A Marinated Cucumber Salad is light, tasty and low in calories.

Here's what you'll need:

2 Large Cucumbers, cleaned and sliced
1 Small Red Onion, diced

Yes, my onion is on the "Costco" side of life, I just didn't use all of it for the salad.

I like to use my Pampered Chef slicer.
It makes pretty slices and anything that looks good makes it taste better.
It's a proven fact.

6 - 8 ounces of Seasoned Rice Vinegar
1-2 Tablespoons of Sugar
1 Tablespoon of Dill Weed

Mix the above ingredients in a bowl and adjust the taste, if needed.

Add the cucumbers and red onion and toss well.
You can eat this right away,
but it is much better given the chance to chill and marinate.

I didn't use garlic in this recipe,
but I would never say never, because it just makes this salad even nicer!
